Intro to Urban Sketching 2

A deeper dive into on-location sketching.

About the Class

You've taken Intro to Urban Sketching–or you've already got some experience–but now it's time to expand your arsenal. Let's get into it! Using The Met as our proving ground, this advanced class covers composition, drawing rhythm, and mark-making. By making strong, creative decisions on these fronts, you'll be able to tackle other big questions–like how to draw people or create a sense of depth. As before, the goal of this class is to cultivate methods so you can open your sketchbook anywhere and feel confident drawing the way you want. This time, however, your session will be more personalized as you'll work by yourself and share progress individually or in small groups. Requirements: Attendees will have to purchase entrance into the museum. (If you live in the New York area, you can pay as little as $1). You will also need your own sketchbook and utensils. Structure: Upon entering, you'll receive a choose-your-own-adventure style set of 3 assignments which you can complete in various sections of the museum before returning for feedback. After a final drawing, we'll have a closing group discussion and discuss your take-home assignment. When: Typically the fourth Saturday of each month from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Where: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, starting by the information booth near the main entrance. More information will be sent to registrants before each session.
